Project 2025 and Veterans is a collaborative effort between the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other federal agencies to improve the health care and well-being of Veterans. The project was launched in 2015 with the goal of achieving a 20% reduction in Veteran suicide by 2025. Project 2025 focuses on four key areas: improving access to mental health care, reducing the stigma associated with mental health, increasing the number of Veterans who receive evidence-based care, and supporting the development of new and innovative treatments for mental health conditions.
Project 2025 has made significant progress in achieving its goals. Since the project’s launch, the VA has increased the number of mental health providers by 20%, and the number of Veterans who receive mental health care has increased by 10%. The VA has also worked to reduce the stigma associated with mental health by launching a public awareness campaign and providing training to VA staff on how to talk about mental health with Veterans. Project 2025 has also supported the development of new and innovative treatments for mental health conditions, such as telehealth and virtual reality therapy.
