The Subaru BRAT (“Bi-drive Recreational All-terrain Transporter”) was a compact pickup truck available in the United States from 1978 to 1987. The concept was revived in 2021 with the launch of the Subaru Wilderness series of vehicles, including a concept vehicle called the Subaru Wilderness BRAT. Subaru has not yet announced whether the BRAT will go into production, but if it does, a release date in 2025 is likely.
The BRAT is a unique vehicle that combines the versatility of a pickup truck with the affordability and fuel efficiency of a compact car. If it goes into production, the 2025 Subaru BRAT will likely be powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer engine and will be available with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. It is expected to have a towing capacity of 2,000 pounds and a payload capacity of 1,200 pounds.
