Martin Luther King Jr. Day, officially observed as Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. and commonly known as MLK Day, is a federal holiday in the United States marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year, which in 2025 will fall on January 20th.
The holiday was established in 1983 and is dedicated to honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King, a civil rights leader who played a key role in the American Civil Rights Movement. MLK Day is a time to reflect on Dr. King’s teachings of nonviolent resistance and to recommit to the fight for equality and justice.
