Hanukkah is an eight-day Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem during the Maccabean Revolt of the 2nd century BCE. It is also known as the Festival of Lights or the Feast of Dedication.
Hanukkah is celebrated by lighting a menorah, a candelabra with nine branches, one for each night of the holiday. The menorah is lit on the first night of Hanukkah and an additional candle is added each night until all nine candles are lit on the last night. Hanukkah is also celebrated by eating traditional foods such as latkes (potato pancakes) and sufganiyot (jelly doughnuts).
