New York Fashion Week (NYFW) is a semi-annual series of events showcasing the latest fashion collections from designers based in or showing in New York City. It is one of the four major fashion weeks in the world, along with those in London, Milan, and Paris. NYFW is a major event for the fashion industry, attracting buyers, press, and celebrities from around the world.
The first NYFW was held in 1943 as a way to promote American fashion during World War II. The event was originally called “Press Week” and was held in the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. In 1993, the event was renamed “New York Fashion Week” and moved to Bryant Park. In 2010, NYFW moved to Lincoln Center, where it is still held today.
