Durga Puja, also known as Durgotsava or Sharadotsav, is one of the most important and widely celebrated festivals in India, particularly in the eastern states of West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Tripura, and Bihar. It is a ten-day festival that commemorates the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura and symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. Durga Puja 2025 will be celebrated from October 22nd to October 30th.
During Durga Puja, elaborate pandals or temporary temples are erected in neighborhoods and public spaces, where large clay idols of Goddess Durga, along with her children Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ganesha, and Kartik, are placed for worship. Devotees offer prayers, flowers, and sweets to the goddess and participate in cultural programs, including traditional dance and music performances.
