Csar Chvez Day 2025 commemorates the life and legacy of labor leader and civil rights activist Csar Chvez, who fought for the rights of farmworkers in the United States. The day is celebrated annually on March 31, the anniversary of Chvez’s birth.
Chvez was born in Yuma, Arizona, in 1927. He began working in the fields as a child, and he quickly became aware of the harsh conditions and low wages that farmworkers faced. In 1962, he co-founded the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA), which later became the United Farm Workers (UFW). The UFW led a number of successful strikes and boycotts, which resulted in improved wages and working conditions for farmworkers.
